All American Poll: Social Media Sharing

We’re always trying to make All American Blogger a better site. Duane writes some of the best blog posts on the internet, and my job is to make the website as reliable and user-friendly as possible.

Pinterest has recently experienced huge growth, and so we’ve added a button to make it easier to pin a post here on the site. I was trying to figure out which social media sites are used the most by All American Blogger readers, so I thought I’d put up a poll for a week or so and let you tell me.

I hope you’ll take a couple of seconds and answer the question, “Which social media site to you most often use to share a webpage or blog post with friends?” I’ll use the results of the poll to help improve the website.

Thanks for reading All American Blogger.

Happy Birthday Duane

Today is Duane’s birthday.

I’d like to tell you just a little bit about Duane. He’s the hardest working man I know, hands down. He works a full time job, creates amazing political videos, does a weekly podcast, is father to his six very happy children, and still finds time to write one of the best political blogs on the internet.

Duane has been my friend for 27 years, and I can tell you he is the kind of person who enriches the lives of those around him. He’s an honest man, which is saying something these days. He’ll have your back in times of trouble but he’s just happy to keep you laughing most of the time.

Duane’s one of the good ones. I hope you’ll join me in wishing him a very happy birthday today.

When Should You Shoot A Cop?

Lots of interesting things are happening around the country at the “Occupy Wall Street” related rallies. At the Occupy Phoenix rally, for instance, some fliers asking “When Should You Shoot A Cop?” mysteriously showed up. [pdf]

Yeesh! Anybody could have dropped those fliers off, you know. I bet one of those evil Fortune 500 CEO’s slipped in like a ninja and planted them. Or a covert tea party operative! It could not have been one of the peaceful, peace loving socialist peace protestors. They’re totally non-violent and stuff. And we all know socialism never hurt anybody.

10 Reasons You Should Vote For Herman Cain

This is a Guest Post by David Kaiser, a citizen activist in the Colorado Herman Cain effort.

It’s been over twenty years since Ronald Reagan left office. Since then, I haven’t found a candidate running for President of the United States that I could truly get excited about. That has all changed with the current election cycle. For the first time in my adult life (I was eighteen when President Reagan’s term ended), I have found a burning desire to get involved and do everything I can to help get Herman Cain elected. While there are seemingly endless reasons, here are the ten best reasons why Herman Cain should get your vote.

  1. Herman Cain is not a politician. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of all the same old, same old in Washington. As the CEO of several corporations, he knows what it takes to run a business successfully. This means he has the ability to bring a business, or country, back from the brink of bankruptcy and back to prosperity.

“I’m not a professional politician. I’m a professional problem solver, and I believe we should cut the salaries of senators and congressmen 10 percent until they balance the budget. I call that conservative common sense.” -Herman Cain

  2. Herman Cain doesn’t have an organized campaign. How can this ever be considered a positive? Well, it’s simple really. Mr. Cain wants to get back to the type of campaigning that originally made this country the best on earth. He has built an active group of grassroots supporters nationwide and they are constantly spreading the word. It doesn’t have to be “the candidate with the most money wins” anymore.
“Most of the people who are in elective office in Washington, D.C., they have held public office before. How’s that workin’ for you?” – Herman Cain

  3. He is a man of morals. Mr. Cain believes if we can fix the moral issues in this country, half the battle will already be won. He is a Baptist Minister who will fight to keep God in our country. He has been married to his wife Gloria for 43 years.
  4. Mr. Cain wants everyone to think for themselves. In his recent “brainwashed” comment, Herman Cain was simply stating that for too long, people (and Black Americans especially) have been groomed to have tunnel vision and not listen to the other side regardless of the issue. His desire is that everyone would listen to both sides of an issue, and ultimately make an educated decision on their own.
“African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view. I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative. So it’s just brainwashing and people not being open minded, pure and simple.” -Herman Cain

  5. He wants us all to help ourselves. Mr. Cain doesn’t believe we need the government giving handouts to make this the greatest country on the planet. In his now infamous statement directed at the Occupy Wall Street demonstrators, his point was personal responsibility. We need to realize that the United States became what it is through the blood, sweat and tears of the American people… not the government.
“Wall Street didn’t write those failed policies. Wall Street didn’t spend a trillion dollars. You can demonstrate all you want on Wall Street, the problem is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.” -Herman Cain

  6. Herman Cain can relate to us. But I thought you said he’s been the CEO of several corporations? He must be a multi-millionaire! While that’s true, it also means he is a perfect example of someone fulfilling the American dream. His father worked three jobs supporting the family, and as he has said many times “I was po’ before I was poor”. He has worked his way up from poverty to wealth and has lived everywhere in between. In short, he can relate to the American people.
“I started at Pillsbury as a manager in one of their analysis functions, then worked my way up the corporate ladder to become vice president. Moving to Burger King was an important moment in my career.” -Herman Cain

  7. Believe it or not, he is still relatively unknown. While he has recently surged in the polls, placing him in a virtual tie with Mitt Romney, an August NBC – Wall Street Journal poll proved that roughly one in four Republicans didn’t know enough about him to offer an opinion. Once the word gets out (and it’s spreading like wildfire at present), his popularity will explode!
  8. Mr. Cain understands economics. When his plan is fully implemented, it will result in companies returning to the United States and that will mean our country will once again be self-sufficient. Production will once again drive our economy, not government spending. Herman Cain has said that government spending is like taking a bucket of water from the deep end of the pool, pouring it in the shallow end, and hoping the water level will change.
“It’s time to get real, folks. Hope and change ain’t working. Hope and change is not a solution. Hope and change is not a job.” -Herman Cain

  9. He wants to put more money in our pockets. Once Mr. Cain’s 9-9-9 plan hits phase two, he will educate the public on the benefits of the Fair Tax. This will replace corporate and individual income taxes, and make it possible to end the IRS as we know it. Personally, in using the Fair Tax calculator, it would put $2,868.37 per year back in my family’s pocket, as well as reduce our federal tax by $3,580.57.
  10. His 9-9-9 plan makes sense. Many have said that Mr. Cain’s 9-9-9 plan is too simple to implement. Well, how difficult do you want it? If a plan can be laid out in plain English on a two page document that I can understand, it’s good enough for me! There is no government red tape, no legalese, and it will be phased in, so there will be no shock to the system. Not only that, it will be in place for a very long time, since a 2/3 vote will be required for any increase. Since everyone will be on the same page, paying the same percent, there won’t be much support to increase it.
“The 9-9-9 plan would resuscitate this economy because it replaces the outdated tax code that allows politicians to pick winners and losers, and to provide favors in the form of tax breaks, special exemptions and loopholes. It simplifies the code dramatically: 9% business flat tax, 9% personal flat tax, 9% sales tax.” -Herman Cain

This is not a comprehensive list. I’m just a regular guy who recognizes a good, common sense driven, morally based man. I have no political background other than voting in elections regularly. I just know what needs to happen to get this country back to where we once were. And I believe with all my heart that Herman Cain is that man, that candidate, that future President!

For these reasons, and many others I haven’t mentioned, I have chosen to get involved. For the first time in my life, I have a candidate that I want to actually help get elected. Simply voting isn’t enough this time. Our country is at a cross-road and we have a very important choice to make. That’s why I’m involved in the Colorado Herman Cain effort, and I hope I’ve helped encourage you to make the same choice!

America The Beautiful

When my wife and I lived in Nebraska, our next door neighbor was a woman in her 80′s. I used to shovel the snow off of her driveway and sidewalk. She never asked me to do it, and although she was always grateful I didn’t want any thanks. I did it because that’s what neighbors do and that’s what Americans do. We help each other out, and we help others when they need it.

To me, America isn’t defined by a group of a few hundred men and women in Washington D.C. who write laws and spend money, it’s defined by all the people who don’t even think twice about doing the right thing.

America is about all the people who join the volunteer fire department to serve their community. It’s about all the neighborhoods where kids can play outside because all the neighbors are keeping an eye on them. America is about folks who stop and help someone change a tire. America is about the group of nice old ladies who bought my six year old a cookie on their way out of the restaurant just because they though he was cute.

Last night, some of our neighbors knocked on our door and invited us to come down the block because an impromptu block party was springing up. Our neighbors are young and old, racially and religiously diverse and have a range different political convictions. But we’re all Americans and we all had a great time together sharing food and drink and laughs. That’s what America is all about. And that’s why I believe that America is the most beautiful place on earth.

Happy Fourth of July everyone.

10 Candidates That Would Be Better Than Obama

I just saw a totally random statement on a Facebook discussion that made me do the Kif Kroker sigh. The discussion was about Mitt Romney, and someone took time to make the argument that Mitt is “better than what we have in there now”. After the overdose-of-obviousness induced one-second migraine went away, I realized that some people probably actually think (and vote) based on that train of thought.

So I thought I’d illustrate the point that “better than” is not always better. Much like getting hit in the face with a running chainsaw is better than being boiled in molten lead, it’s “better than”, but it still sucks.

10 Candidates Better Than Barack Obama

  1. A box of screws
  2. An empty box that once held screws
  3. A watch with a calculator on it
  4. A delicious ham and cheese sandwich –>
  5. A chess set with no pawns
  6. A pretty rainbow
  7. A dumpster full of medical waste
  8. A one cubic foot block of foam rubber
  9. Sand
  10. Any short story by Mark Twain

See, what we’re going for here is not something better than Barack Obama. What we need is a real person with basic math skills, the tendency to do the right thing when it’s not easy and maybe even some real world experience.

Who that person will be remains to be seen. But if we expect to have any chance of making it through this mess we’re in, as a nation, we’re going to have to look for a “great” candidate and not just someone better than the teleprompter reader we have now.
