The Death Panels Become Permanent!

While the press attention is diverted to talking about the sexual preferences of a NY congressman and the details of the so-called ‘reconciliation bill’ we are not reminded about a key element of the Senate Health-care bill that is certainly of questionable constitutionality!

In section 3403 (starting at page 1,000) of the bill we find the following on pages 1019 and 1020: ‘‘(3) LIMITATION ON CHANGES TO THE BOARD RECOMMENDATIONS.— ‘‘(A) IN GENERAL.—It shall not be in order in the Senate or the House of Representatives to consider any bill, resolution, or amendment, pursuant to this subsection or conference report thereon, that fails to satisfy the requirements of subparagraphs (A)(i) and (C) of sub- 4 section (c)(2).

Specifically the bill states that neither the US Senate or the US House of Representatives can change or remove the Independent Medicare Advisory Board (IMAB) which is created to “reduce the per capita rate of growth in Medicare spending.”

This is the panel that Sarah Palin aptly named a ‘death panel’ charged with determining which procedures/medications/treatments are acceptable, based on financial considerations for all people covered by Medicare. And, since many insurance companies use the Medicare rules for their own procedures this will affect the entire population.

Based on this section alone our elected representatives will not be able to amend or change this in any way through future actions. In other words, this bill binds all future legislatures.

This does not pass the basic smell test and should be brought to the attention of the American public!

What else do we need to know?

Kill the Bills. Do Health Reform Right – HUMAN EVENTS

Our ‘leaders’ don’t seem to know the difference between health insurance and health care! In order to disguise the effort to re-distribute wealth, they have cooked up a 2,000 page bill that purports to solve a problem 85% of Americans do not feel we have. They will kill health insurance as we know it and will downgrade health care for most Americans. We seniors will be hurt the worst in terms of care and the young adults will bear the highest share of the costs! Charles Krauthammer, a psychiatrist and writer has nailed the issue here!

Kill the Bills. Do Health Reform Rightby Charles Krauthammer11/27/2009The United States has the best health care in the world — but because of its inefficiencies, also the most expensive. The fundamental problem with the 2,074-page Senate health-care bill as with its 2,014-page House counterpart is that it wildly compounds the complexity by adding hundreds of new provisions, regulations, mandates, committees and other arbitrary bureaucratic inventions.Worse, they are packed into a monstrous package without any regard to each other. The only thing linking these changes — such as the 118 new boards, commissions and programs — is political expediency. Each must be able to garner just enough votes to pass. There is not even a pretense of a unifying vision or conceptual harmony. The result is an overregulated, overbureaucratized system of surpassing arbitrariness and inefficiency.

Have we been lied to?

We seniors will not be able to keep our doctors! A careful read of the bill passed in the House of Representatives finds an attempt to remove the choices of Doctors and specialists for Senior Citizens. We have paid into the Medicare program since its inception with specific promises.

Now, in a rush to act before we have full understanding of the act, Speaker Pelosi broke her promise to let the final bill be on the Internet for 72 hours prior to a vote and they will break the promises that we have relied on concerning our Medicare program benefits.  If they will lie and break promises to “We the Senior Citizens” they cannot be trusted to tell anyone the truth or to keep their promises!

Eviscerating Medicare:In addition to reducing future Medicare funding by an estimated $500 billion, the bill fundamentally changes how Medicare pays doctors and hospitals, permitting the government to dictate treatment decisions.• Sec. 1302 pp. 672-692 moves Medicare from a fee-for-service payment system, in which patients choose which doctors to see and doctors are paid for each service they provide, toward what’s called a “medical home.”The medical home is this decade’s version of HMO-restrictions on care. A primary-care provider manages access to costly specialists and diagnostic tests for a flat monthly fee. The bill specifies that patients may have to settle for a nurse practitioner rather than a physician as the primary-care provider. Medical homes begin with demonstration projects, but the HHS secretary is authorized to “disseminate this approach rapidly on a national basis.”A December 2008 Congressional Budget Office report noted that “medical homes” were likely to resemble the unpopular gatekeepers of 20 years ago if cost control was a priority.• Sec. 1114 pp. 391-393 replaces physicians with physician assistants in overseeing care for hospice patients.• Secs. 1158-1160 pp. 499-520 initiates programs to reduce payments for patient care to what it costs in the lowest cost regions of the country. This will reduce payments for care and by implication the standard of care for hospital patients in higher cost areas such as New York and Florida.• Sec. 1161 pp. 520-545 cuts payments to Medicare Advantage plans used by 20% of seniors. Advantage plans have warned this will result in reductions in optional benefits such as vision and dental care.• Sec. 1402 p. 756 says that the results of comparative effectiveness research conducted by the government will be delivered to doctors electronically to guide their use of “medical items and services.”

Any ‘representative’ guilty of voting for this denial of what we have been promised should be thrown out of office!

Obama: A Man Apart – HUMAN EVENTS

If you are  as confused as I am as I try to understand the President and his strange behaviour, perhaps this article by Herbert London will help.

Obama: A Man Apart

by Herbert London (more by this author)

Albert Camus was expert at describing a man apart, an existential man The Stranger, who didn’t belong in the society in which he found himself. He didn’t have emotional roots; in fact, this character was haunted by shadows — the real and the metaphorical. He is the quintessential rebel challenging normative standards.

At the risk of drawing literary comparisons, I am persuaded based on his performance that President Obama is a man apart. He seems to equate power with arrogance; pride with willfulness and exceptionalism with dominance. As a consequence, he has changed foreign policy perceptions. The America he leads is a nation like any other — no more, no less. In fact, as a Nobel laureate, he is considered by the Europeans as a man of the world, not merely a citizen of the United States.

When asked if the United States is exceptional, President Obama said America is exceptional and England is exceptional and Greece is exceptional. That the United States is sui generis didn’t cross his mind. How could it? He is pledged to a scenario in which America opts out of its traditional role as peace keeper, the balance wheel in maintaining international equilibrium. The war against terrorists is over along with the nation’s hegemonic role.

Unfortunately the war fatigue President Obama embodies is not embraced by our global enemies who see this shift in his policy attitude as a sign of weakness and retreat. I believe President Obama actually thinks that unilateral concessions to our real and putative enemies will result in reciprocal responses. But as his bizarre overtures to the Olympic Committee demonstrated, gestures directed at multilateralism and celebrity status do not result in favorable results. Real power as opposed to soft power still has meaning on the world stage.

A man with roots would know that wild policy swings of the kind that we’ve experienced with healthcare, cap and trade and education proposals cannot possibly fly, with the American people, even with those who voted for President Obama in the last election. Despite cultural shifts in the nation, the United States still fashions itself as a conservative nation. Only a man apart cannot sense that condition.

via Obama: A Man Apart – HUMAN EVENTS.

Yes, Obama does seem to be a man who is totally disconnected from mainstream Americans.  When almost 1 million Tea partiers and others descended on DC to tell him of their concerns, he made a hastily planned retreat to a friendly crowd of Democratic supporters in Minneapolis and pretended he did not know about the concerns of us Americans and had his spkesmen out calling the peaceful, orderly protesters an angry mob and racists.

We never dreamed we would be seeing someone so far apart from our values and our culture in the White House! We need our elected legislators to stand up and tell him what we are saying! And if they do not we need to replace them with people who will!

via SafeLink Wireless – Lifeline Benefits .

And to think, those of us who are retired and living on fixed incomes have to pay for our phones!  What would be wrong with simply supplying a corded landline and a local calling plan? Just one more example of Obama’s “spread the wealth” philosophy, better known as socialism!

Or better yet, why can’t Congress work on what they are charged with doing, namely providing an annual budget on time and balanced and open for we the taxpayers to read and approve or decide to vote them out next year? We don’t have the income guarantees for life that Congress gets and they exempt themselves from anything they feel would not be in their best interest (aka Government Option Healthcare Plan). They even set the tax codes to give themselves preferential treatment.

It is time they learn that we are not as dumb or blind as they think!

We are told there will be no shortages in ObamaCare

H1N1 flu is running rampant throughout the U.S., and the country will have received only 25 percent of the vaccine that was expected by the end of October, Sen. Joe Lieberman told a Senate committee hearing Wednesday.

The grim news was the focus of a special hearing of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, at which three Cabinet secretaries were called to address the panel: Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Education Secretary Arne Duncan.

The article adds later that:

A study released Tuesday from Purdue University said it may be too late for the H1N1 vaccine to be of any benefit to Americans, as they may contract the virus before the vaccine takes effect. The study said most people would be infected during the month of October at a time when the vaccine is not available to most Americans.

via H1N1 Running Rampant Amid Shortage of Vaccine – H1N1 – FOXNews.com.

This is just a simple flu epidemic and we have been hearing about it for the last year, yet now we hear that we are low on the needed vaccines (both regular and H1N1) and the delivery is through the government, not private doctors and hospitals.  This sounds a lot like another Katrina fiasco where we see the limitations of big government out in the open.

If we are expected to believe the “Government Option” will be better than private insurance and that an ultimate US Universal Health Plan will be anything better than the UK or the Canadian plans, we are being taken for total idiots!  Big government is never the answer, but as Ronald Reagan said, ‘it is the problem.’

It is time to stop the expansion of government and depend on individual initiative.

It is time for all Americans to find out what is planned for Copenhagen and to let our government know we do not want to ceded sovereignty to a world government.  Is the Healthcare debate clouding the issue to prevent us from learning about this treaty until it is too late? Karl Rove: Obama Hasn't Closed the Health-Care Sale – WSJ.com

Every sales person knows that it is critical to successful selling is truth in advertising and a clear, sincere sales presentation. Unfortunately, in the health care debacle, we are being fed lies and false promises that a true analysis shows to be false.

The true costs of the reorganization of 1/6 of our economy is still being computed, but the facts that are coming out are quite concerning, at best.  Mr. Rove, who is known for his analytic abilities gives us a glimpse today in the Wall Street Journal:

The problem for Mr. Obama is that the Baucus bill is being sold on the strength of accounting tricks that make it appear that it won’t add to the deficit. This is true for the other health-reform bills, too. If fiscally conservative Democrats sign on to the bill now after publicly saying they are doing so because it doesn’t add to the deficit, they may end up bailing once the tricks are revealed to the public. One trick is easily explained. The bill imposes tax hikes and benefit cuts right away, including $121 billion of Medicare reductions between 2011 and 2015. But new spending really doesn’t start until five years out 2015 and isn’t fully operational until 2017. The bill uses 10 years worth of tax hikes and benefit cuts to fund a few years worth of benefits.

And that is just a start.

Some governors are also figuring out that the proposal in the Baucus bill to expand Medicaid will shift a big chunk of the federal health-care tab to states. States, after all, pick up an average of 47% of Medicaid’s costs—and expanding it will force states to spend more.

Then there are $400 billion in benefit cuts that are frightening seniors. Jeffrey A. Anderson of the Pacific Research Institute has pointed out that the Baucus bill cuts Medicare payments to physicians by 25% within two years and keeps payments at that level forever, without adjusting for inflation. If this becomes law, doctors who take Medicare patients will see their real income decline each year.

via Karl Rove: Obama Hasn’t Closed the Health-Care Sale – WSJ.com.

Karl makes the point that The President hasn’t sold his snake oil to us yet and the numbers, if made public will not strengthen his sale at all.

No wonder the leadership of the democratic houses in Congress are holding their meetings to complete the legislation behind closed doors! For a President who promised the most transparent administration in history and promised that C-Span would be broadcasting the proceedings for all of us to see, the hypocracy has reached absurd levels! And the ‘traditional media’ is ignoring the whole thing!  Where is Bob Woodward when we need him?

Energy crisis is postponed as new gas rescues the world – Telegraph

Once again our friends across ‘the pond’ have reported vital information that our media doesn’t seem to think we should be hearing. The implications for our energy costs and even our currency are enormous and are explained in this article as only the British press can do.

Energy crisis is postponed as new gas rescues the world

Engineers have performed their magic once again. The world is not going to run short of energy as soon as feared.

By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard

Published: 5:47PM BST 11 Oct 2009

America is not going to bleed its wealth importing fuel. Russia’s grip on Europe’s gas will weaken. Improvident Britain may avoid paralysing blackouts by mid-decade after all.

The World Gas Conference in Buenos Aires last week was one of those events that shatter assumptions. Advances in technology for extracting gas from shale and methane beds have quickened dramatically, altering the global balance of energy faster than almost anybody expected.

via Energy crisis is postponed as new gas rescues the world – Telegraph.

The author further points out the implications for the increase of reserves, globally are enormous:

The US Energy Department expects shale to meet half of US gas demand within 20 years, if not earlier. Projects are cranking up in eastern France and Poland. Exploration is under way in Australia, India and China.

Texas A&M University said US methods could increase global gas reserves by nine times to 16,000 TCF (trillion cubic feet). Almost a quarter is in China but it may lack the water resources to harness the technology given the depletion of the North China water basin.

Just when the prospects for hyper inflation and the destruction of the value of the dollar seems so possible, they raise this bit of hope!

As for the US, we may soon be looking at an era when gas, wind and solar power, combined with a smarter grid and a switch to electric cars returns the country to near energy self-sufficiency.

This has currency implications. If you strip out the energy deficit, America’s vaulting savings rate may soon bring the current account back into surplus – and that is going to come at somebody else’s expense, chiefly Japan, Germany and, up to a point, China.

When will our own media and our government stop lying to us about the Gore fabricated shortages that seem to insure his wealth well into the future, at the expense of our tax dollars? We should demand open debate on the global energy situation and start to open our eyes to all of the potential consequences. We seem to be more willing to create crises and to then rush to solve them regardless of the other consequences or differing opinions. Our country was founded by people who honored open discussion and debate! Our current government seems to ‘thrive’ in back-room deals and closed door sessions followed by passage of enormous, confusing and obfuscating bills that only the authors have read without a chance for we the voters or even our elected representatives to have a chance to read, let alone debate.

This is tyranny of the highest order! We must stop it while we are still able to speak out!
