Mark Steyn on Sarah Palin

From the Corner:

First, Governor Palin is not merely, as Jay describes her, “all-American”, but hyper-American. What other country in the developed world produces beauty queens who hunt caribou and serve up a terrific moose stew? As an immigrant, I’m not saying I came to the United States purely to meet chicks like that, but it was certainly high on my list of priorities. And for the gun-totin’ Miss Wasilla then to go on to become Governor while having five kids makes it an even more uniquely American story. Next to her resume, a guy who’s done nothing but serve in the phony-baloney job of “community organizer” and write multiple autobiographies looks like just another creepily self-absorbed lifelong member of the full-time political class that infests every advanced democracy.

Leftist Douchebags Target Palin's Daughter – Updated

I’m sorry if I offend anyone with this title, but I am really ticked off about this one. Daily Kos has a diary post claiming the Sarah Palin didn’t actually have her last baby, that she was covering for her daughter.

This meme has been picked up on Democratic Underground, was on delicious popular, has invaded Newsvine, all the while lefties are defending it because, “Oh, you Republicans are saying Barack Obama is a closet Muslim. Karl Rove is worse. Blah, blah, blah…”

Makes me want to puke.

This moral relevance is false. Show me where Republicans targeted Obama’s children? Google it.

Show me one place where any Republican has fabricated a story, a vicious, slanderous story about one of Obama’s children.

This is disgusting, and really shows the low life, desperate nature of the left.

UPDATE:

Lefties are saying she should have aborted Trig and moved on with her life. Disgusting.

Dick Morris Gives Alan Colmes a Throat Chop on Last Night's H&C

Not really, but he did say this beaut:

Alan: “Don’t you need somebody that’s ready Day 1 to be President of the United States?”

Dick Morris: “Yeah, it would be nice if the Democrats nominated somebody like that…”

I think Colmes would have preferred a throat chop.

Every time the Democrats bring up inexperience with Palin, they are bringing up Obama’s inexperience also. The fact is, Palin has more executive experience than both of the Democrat candidates combined.

If I can find video of this, I’ll update the post. I want to see the look on Colmes face when Morris says that.

McCain Picks Palin For V.P. Spot

Sarah Palin
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin

John McCain has picked the next Vice President to be Sarah Palin, current governor of Alaska.

Palin, like McCain, is a conservative with a maverick streak who has shown a willingness to clash with others in her own party. A self-styled hockey mom and political reformer, she has been governor of her state less than two years.

Palin’s selection shocked numerous Republican officials.

At 44, Palin is a generation younger that Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, who is Barack Obama’s running mate on the Democratic ticket.

She is three years Obama’s junior, as well — and McCain has made much in recent weeks of Obama’s relative lack of experience in foreign policy and defense matters.

In making his pick, McCain passed over several more prominent prospects who had figured in speculation for months — Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge among them. [source]

Palin is pretty young, and the Democrats will have a few things to sling mud at, but I think she’s a pretty good choice for McCain to make. She’s not a Washington insider, which is good. She’s got a history of busting corrupt politicians, which is great. And there is certainly a percentage of people who will vote McCain/Palin just because she’s a woman. So politically, I think he made a good choice.

I’m still not voting for him, but he made a good choice.

What is Up with the Denver Police? UPDATED

Hat Tip to Classically Liberal on this video. In it, you will see the Denver police working crowd control. Then you will see a Denver police officer strike a woman with his baton, shoving her to the ground while he yells, “BACK UP BITCH!”

Then, after she is back up and being interviewed, the police rush in, pull her away from reporters and other cops block the reporters from following her.

Now I know these guys are used to dealing with thick skulled Broncos fans, but these were dainty, peace loving, Marine hating Code: Pinkos. Even though they were communists, this seems a little over the top. They still have rights, even if they would deny me mine.

When you combine that with the actions the police took against the ABC producer who was taking pictures of Democrat party members and corporate donors, it makes me wonder what is up with the Denver police.

Anyone know the whole story behind this?

UPDATE:

Zombie was there. The woman knocked down was not following instructions, and taunting the Denver police. You reap what you sow.

Pawlenty: “We should have listened to President Carter”

Gov. Tim Pawlenty, probable vice presidential pick for John McCain, had the following to say about global warming:

“We should not spend time on voices that say [climate change] is not real,” Pawlenty said even as new evidence surfaces almost daily that undermines the alarmist consensus.

“We should have listened to President Carter” about energy policy, Pawlenty said.

Ignore dissent. Embrace malaise.

Anyone else troubled by this?

United States of America vs. Jose Luis Nazario Jr.

A Marine, Jose Luis Nazario Jr., accused of murdering four Iraqis was found not guilty in a civilian court after only six hours of deliberation:

The verdict left the 28-year-old defendant in tears. His mother, family and friends cried so loud the judge smacked his gavel in a call for order.

“It’s been a long, hard year for my family,” Nazario said outside the courtroom. “I need a moment to catch my breath and try to get my life back together.”

Thursday’s verdict marks the first time a civilian jury has determined whether the alleged actions of a former military service member in combat violated the law of war.

The jury forewoman, Ingrid Wicken, hugged Nazario’s sobbing mother, Sandra Montanez, without speaking after the verdict was read. “I watched her all week. She was being tortured every day,” Wicken said later.

“I thanked her, God blessed her,” Montanez said. “I told her she gave me my son back. It was something I needed to say.”

Wicken said the panel acquitted Nazario because there was not enough evidence against him.

“I think you don’t know what goes on in combat until you are in combat,” she said.

He was in a civilian court because the charges were brought against him after he was discharged from the Marines.

Is This Freedom of the Press Under Obama?

It used to be that a reporter could stand on a public sidewalk and take pictures. I seem to remember the Constitution guaranteeing a specific freedom to do this, and then tell other people about it.

Is this the freedom of the press we can expect under President Barack Obama:

An ABC News producer was arrested outside a downtown hotel here Wednesday while he and a camera crew tried to shoot footage of corporate donors leaving a meeting with a group of Democratic senators.

Asa Eslocker, who works with the network’s investigative unit, was charged with trespass, interference and failure to follow a lawful order. He was released four hours later on a $500 bond.

“We expect to see this kind of behavior in Myanmar, not in Denver, Colorado, at a national political convention where a reporter is trying to videotape big-money donors trying to meet with elected officials,” said ABC spokesman Jeffrey Schneider.

Here’s video of how it went down.

Considering the threats and intimidation the Obama campaign has used to silence the Ayers ad, this type of behavior is even more troubling. Arrested for trying “to shoot footage of corporate donors leaving a meeting with a group of Democratic senators.”
