9-12 DC March to the Capitol

Over the last week or so my wife and I had been discussing taking the drive down to Washington DC and taking part in the march on the capitol taking place Saturday September 12, 2009.  I knew that my older brother (I am one of 8) was attending and several other friends would be there but it had been raining and I was having yet another long week at work with more things to do then time to do them.  Pretty normal all things considered.  By Thursday we had pretty much decided we would attend and it was just a matter of working out some details.  We decided we would drive down Saturday morning and hang out for a while and then spend the night somewhere semi-locally just to get away for a bit.  I chose not to make a sign as our main goal in going was to show support for the effort.  Outside of attending a small (maybe 200 people) Tea Party on April 15th neither my wife or I have ever protested for or against anything and so we really were not sure what to expect.  We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

On the morning of September 12, 2009 we left our house at @ 8am.  We live just outside of Philadelphia and without traffic it is about a 2.5 hour drive to DC.  We made good time heading down and when we stopped in Maryland at a rest stop the place was packed!  Many of the people at the rest stop were heading to DC to the protest!  just after we left the rest stop, I got a call from my brother who had spent the night in DC and had gotten to Freedom Park early and the news was all good.  He said that there was a steady stream of people carrying signs heading to the protest and that he was in the middle of a huge crowd!  He began mailing to myself and others the signs he saw:

  • Mama died, the govt lied.
  • We can’t afford our government
  • You know why there’s a second amendment, in case govt forgets to follow the first
  • Us government “tigthen” your belt
  • Drain the swamp in 2010
  • Grandma got run over by the government
  • If 10% is good enough for God it shd be good enough for government
  • Our government is bleeding us to death
  • Obamacare makes me sick
  • Obama, all 57 states are pissed
  • NRA – Don’t make us come back
  • Socialism – I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any more
  • Help the poor, I can take care of myself
  • Are you a maker or a taker
  • Obamacare – a grave choice
  • Vote these clunkers out of office
  • Not paid to be here
  • Help, they want me to work and stuff! (held by a little girl)
  • You Lie
  • Don’t tell Obama what comes after a trillion
  • I pay more in taxes than in healthcare – fix that!
  • I was against Obama before it was cool
  • With those big ears you should be able to listen better
  • Dead people may vote, but they don’t pay taxes

This is a list put together from several emails that kept arriving as we were driving down.  We had planned to drive to the greenbelt metro station just off the beltway and take the train in from there.  I have never been on the metro in DC, but I had heard good things about the system and had no desire to try to find parking in downtown during a large event like this.  We arrived at the greenbelt station and there was plenty of parking.  We headed in to get our tickets and get onboard the train.  As we entered the station this is the scene we saw.

It took us 25 minutes to get through the lines!  Everyone was heading to the protest and the crowd was friendly and talkative!  We began to meet other people from all over and before the day was done we personally had met people from Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Georgia, Florida and Texas!  My friends that we met there met additional people from Utah, Kentucky and California as well as others that I just don’t recall!  Truly amazing when you think about the distance people travelled to make it to this event.  We talked with people at the station and on the train about the schedule and the best place to get off the trains.  We got off at the national archives expecting to exit the station and walk down Pennsylvania Ave to Freedom park as the march was not scheduled to begin for another 30-45 minutes.  (it was about 11:00)  As we approached the escalators and started up we could already hear the roar of the crowd!  As we exited the station we saw that Pennsylvania ave was FILLED with people already marching toward the capitol!

As you can see from the pictures above there were a lot of people already there.  As we looked toward the White House and Freedom park it was a solid sea of people and as we looked the other direction the people filled the streets and open space as far as I could see all the way to the Capitol dome!

At this point I tried my phone to see where our friends were and where my brother was.  After 10-20 attempts I finally got through to my friends and they were already down near the capitol building and the place was packed!  My wife and I joined in the march and began to work our way down the road.  The atmosphere was a festive one and everyone was having a good time.  The people were friendly and the weather was still cooperating.  We had some heavy clouds overhead but no rain the entire day while we were there.  Various people within the crowd started different chats from ‘CNN Sucks’ to ‘Can you Hear Us NOW’.  As we approached the capitol and the reflecting pool we had to turn left and enter into the ‘protest area’.  This was fun as the crowd began chanting ‘It is hard to turn left!’.

There was a long line of porta-potties down the one side and by this time we were in need so we stood in line and again the crowd was very friendly and everyone was having a good time.  I was continuing to try to call my brother but the cell towers were just completely overwhelmed by this time.  I could only get texts now and the occasional phone call.  We worked our way up so that we were between the reflecting pool and the Capitol building just behind the statue of Ulysses Grant facing toward the capitol.  Here is a picture from where we stood

As I stood here at this location I could see solid people in every direction with the statue behind me.  As we stood here talking to people and listening to the speeches my Friend AJ was working his way around with three others and had promised to try to find me.  He did locate me and we all walked around to the other side of the Grant Memorial and stood by the reflecting pool and talked with each other and to many others from the crowd.  As I stood here I could see that with the exception of the pool the rest of as far as I could see was solid people.  Behind the pool all the way back past Third street SW.  The crowd overflowed Pennsylvania ave on the one side and Maryland ave on the other.  Our other friends had brought signs and I wanted to be sure to include a picture of that one here as well.

We hung out here for an hour or so and eventually my brother, his wife and two kids joined us as well.  We had all found each other in this huge crowd!  I also saw here several new czars.  A Green Czar, a Transparency Czar and a Boob Czar!  :-)

Eventually My wife and I headed off with my Brother and family go get a bite to eat.  We had not had a chance to eat since the previous day!

When we made it back to our car I plugged in the iPhone to the stereo and using AOL Radio I tuned in 1060.  I was very disappointed in the coverage offered where the claim was that only ‘”10s of Thousands” had attended.  My estimation is that it was easily over 1 million people there at the peak.  Over the next few days I have heard many reports about the event including some claiming it was rooted in racism.  Having been there myself I can tell you that I saw Latino’s, Blacks, Whites, and Orientals there.  I saw NO indication of any racist behavior at all.  I did hear that not a single arrest was made at the protest either!  The one thing I DID hear at the rally and I heard it over and over and over again from people from all over.  I heard conservative American’s that are fed up with the out of control size of government and the poor level of reporting from the MSM saying how good it was to know that they were not alone.  They were so glad and energized by the size and energy of the turnout for this event.  I believe that the current administration and anyone siding with them should be very concerned and should be ready to be booted from power next November.  The American people are awake and paying attention and we are FED UP!  You can listen to the reports but know in your hearts that Obama, Pelosi and Reid all know how many people were in attendance and what was said.  I believe they are worried an they should be!

It clearly states that ACORN has broken federal and state laws over and over again and yet Rep John Conyers has refused to investigate further! We need to demand that this be followed up immediately and that all funds be frozen until the full investigation is complete. The freeze should include all of the ACORN affiliates as the report explains that money to one is moved between the affiliates at the will of the leadership.  This report’s executive summary should be broadly published.  Where is the Media on this?

The 10 Most Outrageous Political Terrorists of the Right Wing Mob

(I wrote this article very tongue in cheek. I wanted it to come across as a bit sarcastic, but it was hard for me to pull off, as I hated talking bad about these folks. I hope you understand that I am trying to illustrate the stupidity of the Democrats in labeling the protesters as a mob, or political terrorists, when they are following the role models below, the first Americans to rage against the tyranny of the established government. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks.)

With the overwhelming amount of chatter coming from the Democrats about the uproar Americans are causing at town hall meetings, I thought it would be important to take a look at the people who were behind this attitude, this belief that the people should come before those in government and demand they listen.

There are a select few who are the most outspoken, some more extreme than others. Some of these “political terrorists” simply demand liberty, while others speak plainly of the need for bloody revolution every now and then. They all, however, are quoted and inspire the rabble-rousers disrupting today’s town hall meetings.

Read the words they use. When you do, you get a look at the attitude of today’s town hall protester.

Nathan Hale was so extreme that, when seeing he was to be martyred by the British, wished he could die over and over again. That’s some hard core right wing lunacy.

Hale was a spy for General George Washington, another right wing extremist who we’ll get to in a moment. When Hale was caught and sentenced to hang, he reportedly told the British soldiers, “I only regret,” he said, “that I have but one life to lose for my country.”

While Hale didn’t actually say much, it’s the extremist nature of his most remembered comment that earns him a spot on the list. Wishing you could die repeatedly for libertarian values? This kind of thinking empowers others to keep fighting for ideals such as freedom, individualism and liberty. You can see how the left finds it dangerous.

Sam Adams, besides being a very tasty beer, was another right wing nutcase who caused nothing but trouble. He and his cousin, John Adams (who also made the list) were an integral part of a right wing movement that ended in bloodshed. We call it the American Revolution.

If you think this guy isn’t behind the town hall protests, think again. Here are his instructions, which you can see played out in town hall after town hall:

“It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds”

I’m surprised no one has torched one of these buildings yet, with reckless rhetoric like that. He also told people to go out and fight:

“The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution, are worth defending against all hazards: And it is our duty to defend them against all attacks.

What liberties is he talking about? He spelled that out as well:

“Among the natural rights of the colonists are these: First a right to life, secondly to liberty, and thirdly to property; together with the right to defend them in the best manner they can”

This guy is telling people to defend their property against all attacks, in the best manner they can, and to set brush fires. Dangerous? I guess if you are a statist bent on the redistribution of people’s property, that kind of thinking would be bothersome, especially if a lot of people starting reading and remembering it. The first President of the United States on the list, John Adams was a dangerous man. As noted above, this fella started a war before war mongering was even cool. And then, in typical right wing fashion, he skirted the blame:

“The Revolution was effected before the War commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments of their duties and obligations. This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people, was the real American Revolution.”

There is no doubt John Adams inspires this mob of misfits. Look at the type of extreme mentality he espouses:

“The jaws of power are always open to devour, and her arm is always stretched out, if possible, to destroy the freedom of thinking, speaking, and writing”

“There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty.”

How can a group be expected to be civil when people like John Adams continue to spread fear of government in this way? All in the name of liberty…

The father of the Constitution was another trouble maker. I’m sure if he were alive today, Nancy Pelosi would accuse him of wearing a pair of Nazi pajamas. James Madison sets the mob off, especially with comments like these:

All men having power ought to be distrusted to a certain degree.

Again, spreading fear. This is becoming a common theme, not only on the list but in the town halls. It lead poor Claire McCaskill to wonder aloud, “You don’t trust me? I don’t know what else I can do?” But Madison isn’t finished. He, like other right wingers, puts property above the collective:

By rendering the labor of one, the property of the other, they cherish pride, luxury, and vanity on one side; on the other, vice and servility, or hatred and revolt.

He’s justifying the behavior of the rabid mobsters at these town halls, by blaming the leftists who are trying to impose a government health care system the people don’t want. Outrageous!

Here’s another justification of the irrational behavior of the right wing masses:

We are right to take alarm at the first experiment upon our liberties.

Now this guy, he’s trouble.


Benjamin Franklin not only stirred up things in America, but he was know for recruiting trouble from all around the world. Right wingers back in his day used to send him places so he could bring back folks to fight with them. Sort of a colonial “Astroturf” genius.


But he also had a smart mouth and like to use it. For example:

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

This quote was bandied about during the Patriot Act days, but it is equally usable by the anti-health care reform crowd. After all, they think they are giving up liberties, such as what doctor to use and what operation they can have, for the security of government coverage. (It’s still liberty and it’s still false security, right?)

“The Constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself.”

Clearly Franklin didn’t understand the “General Welfare Clause.” The Constitution gives people the right to anything the Congress says. That’s what the Supreme Court said, anyway. But right wingers still think they understand the Constitution better than the Democrats.

Thomas Paine wrote a pamphlet called “Common Sense” which, in its day and in “relation to the population of the Colonies at that time, had the largest sale and circulation of any book in American history. Common Sense presented the American colonists with a powerful argument for independence from British rule at a time when the question of independence was still undecided.”

It was pretty much nothing but right wing propaganda. Oh yeah, he knew how to fire up a gaggle of right wing nutcases. In his little pamphlet, he wrote all kinds of libertarian nonsense, like:

Society in every state is a blessing, but government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one; for when we suffer or are exposed to the same miseries by a government, which we might expect in a country without government, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer.

You can see why right wingers think he’s a great mind, what with his hatred of government. Here’s another example:

When we are planning for posterity, we ought to remember that virtue is not hereditary.

I’m surprised this hasn’t appeared on a sign yet. After all, conservatives are saying that this will lead to bad things down the road, despite what Democrats say now. That’s exactly what Paine wrote. Whatever the writers of this bill mean today won’t necessarily be what future Congressmen and Senators think it means, or they might warp it to fit their personal world/political view.

LIke that could happen in America…what a fear monger.

Another nutcase ready to die.

Patrick Henry was so far right, he would rather die than serve a master. He is known for the phrase, “Give me liberty or give me death” but there is more to that speech that those seven words. He said:

Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!

History tells us that after he said that, those around him were ready to wage war, shouting “To arms! To arms!” Were this guy at a town hall today, we would probably have a representative dead, shot by one of those gun toting racists black guys MSNBC is worried about.

Here’s another reason this fella is making waves today. He doesn’t want anyone to trust the government either. He told the citizens:

Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.

Not only is he telling them to suspect everyone, but he’s telling them to use force. This guy is all about force. Or death.

He’s dangerous.

John Jay has one quote that right wingers love, especially the more libertarian ones. It’s pretty simple:

No power on earth has a right to take our property from us without our consent.

And despite what the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals says, these folks still consider money their property, meaning whenever taxes are collected, they feel they are having personal property taken from them without their consent. I’ve heard more than one protestor say they don’t like to have their property taken from them and given to someone else. Where do you think they learned that type of thinking?

Hint: John Jay.

He wrote quite a bit as well. He, along with Madison and Alexander Hamilton, wrote the Federalist Papers, which are still used today to try to defend right wing positions.

The General not only spoke of right of center values, but he took up arms for right of center values. This gentleman lead men to war, where they killed for the type of thing these town hall protestors are extolling. Many of the mob find inspiration in this man. They find comfort is the things he said, like:

Experience teaches us that it is much easier to prevent an enemy from posting themselves than it is to dislodge them after they have got possession.

Give you any idea why these people are showing up? Gen. Washington still commands the right. Get in there and stop this from happening. It’s easier than removing it later. No wonder these guys are so rabid. Washington has them terrified.

He also preached about fearing government. Noticing a theme with these extremists? It’s common on the right:

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

Washington. Demonizing the government since before demonizing the government was cool on the right.

I’ve left the worst of the lot for last. This guy’s words have already appeared at an Obama event, being held up by a guy with a gun.

What were the words? The most dangerous kind. He advocates the spilling of blood:

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Un. Be. Lievable.

How irresponsible is it for this right wing blowhard to say something as outrageous as that. That’s not all. Right wingers love to quote this guy. He may be the Democrat’s man, but look at the rhetoric he’s responsible for:

To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

I know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them but to inform their discretion.

A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned – this is the sum of good government.

Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every free state.

Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.

For a people who are free, and who mean to remain so, a well-organized and armed militia is their best security.

And finally:

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

Let me be serious now.

The men above were the original right wing mob who changed history. They preached liberty and distrust of a powerful, central government. They understood freedom was fleeting and that eventually, you would either have to submit to a tyranny, or fight for your freedom.

All the people today want is a little bit of the power back that the Founders and the Framers gave to them, not to the Congress, or the White House or the courts. They just want to be heard and understood. But the Democrats not only reject their positions with dismissals, or talk on the phone while they ask questions, they call the protestors vile names like “political terrorists.”

King George said, “I desire what is good. Therefore, everyone who does not agree with me is a traitor.”

When you look at the words the Democrats use to describe the protestors, and compare it to what King George said about the men above, you get a better idea of whose side you should be on.

If one side is for liberty, then what is the other side for?

Video: Obama Organizers Passsing Out Signs, Literature At Castor Town Hall Prior to Opening the Doors to Public

The left is doing their best to discredit the grassroots efforts of the right by calling the town hall protests “astroturfing.” Never mind the President calling out for unions to join in the meetings in order to drown out the voices of concerned constituents, the folks on the right are fake.

Well, check this video out. This is from the now infamous Castor town hall meeting in Florida. Prior to the doors being opened to the public, Obama’s Organizing for America was working the crowd, passing out signs and other literature in support of the Democrat’s health care reform.

Hundreds were waiting outside, some for hours, while this was going on. But the right, they are the plants:




Is this video being shown on the evening news, or is it being ignored?

If You Think The Union Thugs Are Bad Now, Wait Until the Employee Free Choice Act Passes

The town hall meetings around the country were loud and intense, but it wasn’t until the president called out for the unions to join in the debate that things turned violent.

From The Caucus on August 6th:

John Sweeney, president of the AFL-CIO, sent out a call to arms Thursday for rank-and-file members to counteract what he called the “right-wing ‘Tea Party Patriots’ ” who have been disrupting the meetings.

And the Service Employees International Union, the nation’s largest union of health-care employees, is deploying its members to the meetings to “reclaim our democracy,” according to a statement. Referring to the colorful T-shirts that the union’s members wear at rallies, a spokeswoman said the union was “unleashing the purple people.”

With the introduction of the unions, things have turned violent. Remember, it was Obama who encouraged his supporters to “get in their faces and argue” and the Democrats pledged to “punch them back twice as hard.”

Perhaps now you understand the danger of the Employee Free Choice Act. The AFL-CIO says they “need the Employee Free Choice Act.” The SEIU says they “support the Employee Free Choice Act.”

But card-check, the portion of the bill that most found to be very dangerous, has been removed. So what’s the danger?

Imagine the folks above, the type who stomp people and smash cameras into people’s faces, and consider the following:

…EFCA would mandate that businesses give union organizers access to their property and would restrict businesses’ ability to argue against union-organizing proposals. The organizing-campaign period would be shortened, thereby curtailing debate, and business owners would be prohibited from holding mandatory meetings to discuss union-organizing proposals with their employees. Which is to say, businesses will be forced to open their doors to union organizers, but will not be able to make the case against them on their own property. This is perverse, especially in a country whose constitution is alleged to protect citizens’ freedom of association, not to mention their property rights.

With union memberships at a historical low, should the federal government be mandating the above? Can you imagine one of these folks approaching you to discuss why you should join the union? How far do you think that discussion would go?

The current behavior by union thugs is nothing but foreshadowing of what will be if EFCA is passed.

Two Rules From the Dem Playbook: Get In Their Faces and Punch Them Twice As Hard

Before I start getting inundated with lib pushback that the right wingers are the violent ones, let me remind you all of two things that have come from this modern era leftist movement in America. Back during the campaign, Obama encouraged his supporters to be very much in the face of those who worked against him:



“I want you to argue with them and get in their face…”
Now, Obama is telling his drones that it is time to “get fired up again.

But there is another rule issued down from on high. This time, you are not only to get in their faces, but “punch back twice as hard:

Top White House aides gave Senate Democrats a recess battle plan on Thursday, arming the lawmakers with tips for avoiding disastrous town hall meetings while showing them polling on popular aspects of the reform effort.

Senior White House adviser David Axelrod and deputy chief of staff Jim Messina told senators to focus on the insured and how they would benefit from “consumer protections” in the overhaul, such as ending the practice of denying insurance based on preexisting conditions and ensuring the continuity of coverage between jobs.

They showed video clips of the confrontational town halls that have dominated the media coverage, and told senators to do more prep work than usual for their public meetings by making sure their own supporters turn out, senators and aides said.

And they screened TV ads and reviewed the various campaigns by critics of the Democratic plan.

“If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard,” Messina said, according to an official who attended the meeting.

Well, it seems the left has the “hit” part down, and from some videos I’ve seen, they are adding the grab, push and stomp methods of debate as well.

Tampa Town Hall Turns Violent

Just recently, the Democrats have started encouraging their statist supporters to turn out to the town hall meetings. The AFL-CIO has pledged to send union members to counter the people voicing dissent. In Missouri, Russ Carnahan locked out a thousand right leaning constituents, but made special arrangements to get members of the SEIU in a side door.

Since the Dems have started turning out, things have started getting violent. In Tampa:




As Rep. Kathy Castor was introduced, the reaction was overwhelmingly against her, with boos and chants of “You work for us.” And in the lobby, the counter of Planned Parenthood representatives shouting, “Healthcare Now.”

Shortly thereafter, violence erupted, where there were 2-3 big goons came out and started pushing those in line, and roughing up one in the corner (see top left screen) as well as another being put in a choke hold. Directly in front of the gentleman in the plaid type shirt, is one of them in a flower print. (eleven o’clock from the camera phone in the scene.) To right of the phone, another in a white shirt. Keep your eye on him, as he then goes for the choke hold on one of the people.

Deep in the corner of your upper left screen, there’s a gentleman in a green shirt, whose is getting roughed up, as these two are pushing others. A police officer enters the seen, (Dark blue uniform, short, and a black officer.) You still see the gentleman getting roughed up. The cop not doing anything. They then let the guy go, as they slam the door shut. Later in the video, you see the officer conversing with the gentleman who got roughed. After a brief description from myself, the cop walks away.

Will it get violent again? Yes. It will.

The left is sending out all of its allies to the town hall meetings. You can expect this kind of “in your face” behavior again.

UPDATE: St. Louis County police say six people were arrested. Two of those were arrested on suspicion of assault, one of resisting arrest and three on suspicion of committing peace disturbances. Carnahan was gone when the ruckus started.

Kenneth Gladney, a 38-year-old conservative activist from St. Louis, said he was attacked by some of those arrested as he handed out yellow flags with “Don’t tread on me” printed on them. He spoke to the Post-Dispatch from the emergency room of the St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, where he said he was waiting to be treated for injuries to his knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face that he suffered in the attack. Gladney, who is black, said one of his attackers, also a black man, used a racial slur against him before the attack started.

“It just seems there’s no freedom of speech without being attacked,” he said.
